Strange weekend!

It was the last weekend in September, but, except for the 70 degree temp, it was exactly like the last weekend in November.

So the Saginaw neighbors met out front armed with rakes and good spirits much earlier in the season than usual. Weekend plans morphed from kayaking and gardening to snuggling in with a good book and a marathon of Breaking Bad.  Actually, I’m glad I had not kept up with this series after I watched the pilot some years ago.  I think the plot would have made a pretty good Coen Brothers’ film, but, as a series, not so much.

My beautiful river is right behind the cabin — and down, straight down, and oddly inaccessible from Champoeg.  Hard to imagine why our pioneer forebears chose this spot for the provisional government of the soon-to-be new State of Oregon.  Clearly, they had wagons and horses and not river boats.

Even in 2013, after scouting the bank from kayaks all along the bank this summer, we find no access.

Maiden Voyage

Yesterday, Roxie and I took Georgienne and her pretty new boat to the reservoir for its maiden voyage.  Georgienne brought special treats along for for Roxie. We paddled up the creek as far as we could, then waded up to a lovely spot for lunch where the water made beautiful music.

We saw some interesting birds and a fawn who was too young to know to run away.  Also saw this slippery forest creature.
