Traditions Old and New

Had a wonderful meal at Burt and Katja’s on Thanksgiving.  I loved being the senior member of the group and especially loved  it that the youngest attendee, six-month-old Tess, allowed me to hold her for a long time.  And I got to work on the giant triceratops puzzle with Farris.

Is the term “new tradition” oxymoronic?  Who cares?  I introduced our family tradition of the See’s chocolate turkeys to Farris and Mathilda.  Mathilda quickly figured out the next part of the tradition:  You have to start by biting off the head.

Remote possibility

I accidentally sat on my Vizio remote last week and couldn’t sort it out, so I called their tech number and played the elderly card. “Can you help me? This is making me very nervous and upset.”  Remotes can be your best friend or your worst enemy, but the Vizio techie is my new BFF.

Here she and  sister are stirring up the home-grown potatoes and the foraged chanterelles.  As MM wrote, “This solidifies our standing as people of the earth.”

And one year when we couldn’t get together on the day, we had a great faux Thanksgiving earlier in November:

Cold Fall Saturday

Roxie and I walked down town today to See’s.  I thought I’d bought enough chocolate Turkeys but, uh, one of them didn’t make it, so I had to go get another one.

At the pond on front of City Hall, we noticed that, in addition to the permanent statue heron,

IMG_2325Look toward the back of the pond. You can see that it’s glazed over with ice, so this sign seems a little unnecessary:IMG_2323A gingko had dropped all its beautiful leaves.

All except one.
