My personal heroine
How we lost our A+ in World Citizenship
“In every myth, the monster has a father and a mother. And so it is with ISIS: its father is George W. Bush’s America, and it’s mother is Saudi Arabia. The former provided it with pretext in the disastrous invasion of Iraq. This invasion was seen as a rape of the Arab world. It was based on a lie — the false link between September 11 and Saddam Hussein — and it destroyed the West’s moral superiority.”

Coming Home
We must not play into this.
Since forever, young, marginalized boys of every ilk and color have been drawn to groups to make themselves feel a part of something. Best case scenario, they are recruited to sport teams, chess teams, marital arts classes, computer nerd groups. Failing that, they sometimes become suicidal or tumble into gangs and become thugs. Worst case, they become radicalized.
The United States and Europe must not play into the hands of the Islamic State by reacting so vituperatively to all Islam that even good boys from good Muslim families are made to feel marginalized.
