I haven’t had much experience being completely in charge of an elderly person. My sister drew the short straw there. I did have a lot of experience being responsible for the needs of three little girls a long time ago.
I’m sure I don’t need to mention that things were not always this idyllic:
Still, some of the things I learned then are helpful in taking over here for Joannie for a bit.
Nevertheless, these days, I feel certain I will never hear this from any of the grown-ups pictured above:
“You’re right, thanks for being smarter about me than I am.”
It is hard being too young or too old to make your own decisions. And it’s not a piece of cake making those decisions either.
You and Joan are wonderful daughters! And Betty is a beautiful person. Fortunately our lives and legacies are not defined by what happens in our declining years. Please give her my love and a hug.
