Monday night, I was talking to my Citizenship students about the European immigrants who sailed across the Atlantic and entered the United States through Ellis Island.  We went to the map and found the ocean, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Poland, et al.  I was stunned when the first question asked was, “Was Border Control in the middle of the ocean, or just all up and down the coast?”
