I have loved basketball all my life.
When I was a tiny girl, Mother took me to watch girls’ games. Small towns around where we lived held their tournaments at the college gym in Durant. My favorite town was named Blue. My favorite player was Billie. We also had a tall handsome cousin who played for the college.
In junior high, I played basketball for about fifteen minutes.
Many years later when I moved to the Bay Area, I began to follow the Warriors, then known as the San Francisco Warriors. First they played in the Cow Palace. Then they moved to Oracle in Oakland and became known as the Golden State Warriors. I went to a lot of games there.
The last one was a Christmas present from Katherine a few years ago. They were playing the Celtics and were supposed to lose. We won.
Tonight may be the last game the Warriors play in Oakland, “The Town.” I’m dressed for it.
Then they move to their new facility back in The City. I wonder if they will then be known again as the San Francisco Warriors.
Ooh, cool shirt! Er, I mean, jersey!
