And on to November

Definitely time to empty this over-flowing October rain gauge.  Normal rainfall for October is 3.03″.  This year:  5.92, so they say.

Kobe and I have witnessed a lot of seasonal changes over the years and we both know what falling leaves portend.

This is the view from my bedroom window.  The Liquidambar styraciflua (sweet gum) holds on to its beautiful leaves longer than the other trees.

“No measurable precip”

For over 80 days, that was the case, and it set some sort of record.  But yesterday, I got out my daddy’s rain gauge, which I inherited, installed it in my winter lettuce pot and measured some.  I think the rain gauge catches a lot more precip here than it ever did in Reeves County.

And today, before Blue and I set out for our weekly quality time at the Saturday Market, we dug out our rain gear.  Blue looks particularly spiffy in his.

Lie down with dogs . . .

.  .  .  wake up with a smile on your face.

I think a good number of people in my age-group have grandchildren — Jeeze! — probably great-grands!  My children have all blessed my lives with their dogs — my grand-dogs.  Two of them are spending the summer with me, with a third popping in from time to time, and we are having such a good time.  Along with Roxie, my own excellent companion, they seem to enjoy, according to size, age, and ability, the same things I do:  jumping in the river, riding in the kayak, running at the dog park, walking  to town and around the neighborhood, napping in the garden, eating regular meals, snuggling in a pile.  Not a one ever expresses boredom, needs entertaining, or turns up a cold, wet nose at whatever food is offered.    It’s all good.
